the seattle music scene is... well it's in a state
and not exactly the ideal state, though Washington is a very nice state.
venues are struggling, bands are doing their best to stick together, but fans of the seattle music scene are fucking awesome.
El Corazón
while the name is “the heart,” i’ll defer and say it is “a heart” of seattle music. whether or not it’s your favorite, it’s damn near the epitome of seattle music venues, down to the weird business with splicing funhouse right into the space. check out their gofundme, which launched this time last year.

porn bloopers, as a band name, is a total vibe. I just imagine the sound of trying something, but manages little more than a mix of frustration, confusion, and ultimately, disappointment. in reality they’re serving up some ungoogleable kaiser chiefs-y upbeat punk with some lowfi, high energy vibes. bandcamp link

As hard as it has been on bands and venues, the last year has been hard for other reasons too. Julie Baird worked with pnw musicians to make a compilation album to benefit bellevue’s Youth Eastside Services (YES). It’s chock full of local artists splayed across half the gamut of genres. check it out here.

even in one of the hardest stretches for live music and local bands, all of the artists featured on that something beautiful compilation album agreed to support disadvantaged youth instead of pocketing their own profit.
SHOWS DO EXIST, and El Corazon/The Funhouse are hosting in person shows now – emo night is coming up in july 2021??
As far as I know though, that building is still coming down at some point in the next few years, what with the lot being worth $5.28M as of 2018 and all.
